China's public holiday calendar for 2024 released

Employees can look forward to a long Chinese New Year holiday of up to eight days.

The State Council of the People's Republic of China has released the public holidays calendar for 2024.

During the Spring Festival (also known as Chinese New Year) and the National Day holiday (often called ‘Golden Week’), employees can look forward to long holidays of eight days and seven days respectively.

Chinese New Year’s Eve (9 February 2024), however, is not listed as an official holiday day. Employers are encouraged to give their staff a paid day off on that day.

It is worth noting that Saturdays and Sundays are often adjusted as additional official workdays in China to compensate for long holiday breaks.

Details of China's 2024 public holidays are as follows:

New Year's Day

1 January 2024 (three-day long weekend)

Spring Festival (Chinese New Year)

10-17 February 2024 (eight days)

Adjusted working days: 4 February 2024 (Sunday) and 18 February 2024 (Sunday)

Employers are encouraged to give their staff a paid day off on Chinese New Year's Eve (9 February).

Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping Festival)

4-6 April 2024 (three days)

Adjusted working days: 7 April 2024 (Sunday)
