The new salary adjustment will be received by permanent civil servants and contract appointees as early as December, with the lowest starting salary in the public service being increased to RM1,500 per month.
The signing ceremony for Malaysia's upcoming Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) took place on 21 October 2024, led by Director General of Public Services Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan bin Haji Abdul Aziz. With this, civil servants will be able to opt in for the system from 21 October to 30 November 2024.
Initially announced on 13 September, the SSPA will replace the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) starting 1 December 2024. The option is open to all permanent civil servants, with approximately 1.5m expected to participate in November 2024. The new salary adjustment will be received by permanent civil servants and contract appointees (COS) as early as this December, with the lowest starting salary in the public service being increased to RM1,500 per month.
Through the SSPA, DG Ahmad Dahlan highlighted the aspect of improving quality in the management and development of human capital as a key priority.
As affirmed by the Public Service Department, this reflects the Malaysian Government's efforts to improve productivity and service delivery for the people. In addition, SSPA aims to address the issue of income that does not keep pace with the cost of living, as well as strengthen the country's fiscal sustainability.
