Citizens are still required to wear masks in public transport carriers, MTR paid areas, scheduled premises, and specified public places.

Hong Kong's Secretary for Health exercised the power conferred by section 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing of Mask) Regulation to extend the requirement to wear masks in public transport carriers, MTR paid areas, Cap. 599F premises, and specified public places for 14 days to 8 March 2023, as announced in a gazette by the HKSAR government.

A person must wear a mask at any time when they are entering or present in any catering premises, specified public places, or scheduled premises. Performers must also wear masks as far as feasible. The mask-wearing requirement is only exempted for persons if:

  • they are present in outdoor public places in country parks and special areas as defined in section 2 of the Country Parks Ordinance (Cap. 208);
  • they are eating or drinking;
  • they are making a speech, taking photos, or toasting on stage at an event;
  • they are exercising;
  • they are under the age of 2 or have lawful authority or reasonable excuse for not wearing a mask.
