Meanwhile, a verification service linking travel and residence permits has also been launched.

China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA) has announced two new measures to facilitate travel and residency for residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on the mainland China, effective 20 March 2025.

Frist, residents of the three regions who lose, damage, or forget to carry their travel permits, yet need to travel urgently by plane or train within Mainland cities, can now apply for a temporary electronic permit valid for seven days via mobile phone.

However, the NIA reminds that temporary electronic travel permits can only be used for travel between Mainland cities. Hong Kong residents traveling to the Mainland through various ports, or returning to Hong Kong, must still carry their Home Return Permits.

Meanwhile, a verification service linking travel and residence permits has also been launched.

Individuals can request proof of their permit association for personal affairs through the NIA's online platform, or obtain an official paper document from any immigration office at or above the county level nationwide.

A spokesperson for the NIA stated that since its establishment, the administration has consistently focused on the needs and expectations of residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, actively addressing their concerns and difficulties. The administration pledged to further enhance immigration policies, expand service accessibility, and offer more tailored support to facilitate the lives and development of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents on the mainland.

To date, the administration has implemented over 40 service measures for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents across 10 sectors, including transportation, finance and telecommunications, benefiting those residents through free real-time verification services.
