Indonesia's President announces religious holiday cash allowance for ride-hailing workers

With Eid coming up, the allocation of THR should be made at least seven days before Eid and the grant process will be given in more details by the Minister of Employment.

Following feedback from driver communities on the provision of religious holiday allowance which is also known as Tunjangan Hari Raya (THR), Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto called upon the mandate for companies to provide cash allowance to individuals working under app-based transportation services on Monday (10 March).

Conveying the following message from the government, the allocation of THR should be made at least seven days before Eid and the grant process will be given in more details by the Minister of Employment.

President Prabowo shared that there is approximately 250,000 active online taxi drivers and couriers, and another one to 1.5mn who work those jobs part-time. He also said that the government is paying special attention to this group who have made significant contributions to supporting transportation and logistics services in Indonesia. Therefore, holiday allowance is given to all drivers and courier partners given the nature of their job activity.

According to Antara, this decision was made after a meeting with Manpower Minister Yassierli, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Gojek Tokopedia (GoTo) CEO Patrick Walujo, Grab CEO Anthony Tan, and representatives of online driver partners. During the meeting, it was noted that the leaders of app-based transportation service companies expressed their commitment to provide THR to their workers through the Ramadan season.

"Hopefully with this policy the workers and online drivers can feel the holiday and return, and Eid al-Fitr in a good condition," the President said.
