Inspections to be enforced at entry & exit points between Labuan and Sabah from 1 Nov

This is in line with the "need to improve the security and border control aspects in Sabah", Dato' Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, Director-General of JIM, said.

The Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, or JIM) will enforce exit and entry control checks for all visitor movements between WP Labuan and Sabah starting today (1 November 2022).

This is in line with the "need to improve the security and border control aspects in Sabah", Dato' Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, Director-General of JIM, said on Monday (31 October). It comes following instructions by Minister of Home Affairs Hamzah Zainudin during a visit to Labuan in September.

Currently, inspections are only conducted at random for such movements.

Details on the inspection points

According to the DG's statement, inspections will be carried out at the following entry and exit points:

  • for exit and entrance from WP Labuan to Jesselton Point Jetty and Tanjung Pagar Jetty, Sabah: inspection will be held at WP Labuan International Ferry Terminal.
  • for entrance from WP Labuan to Menumbok Jetty, Sabah: inspection will be held at WP Labuan RO-RO Jetty and WP Labuan International Ferry Terminal.
  • for exit from Menumbok Jetty, Sabah to WP Labuan: inspection will be held at Menumbok Jeti, Sabah.

The above applies to all categories of visitors. Dato' Sri Khairul also affirmed that visitors who are restricted from entering or exiting, by orders from the Sabah State Authorities, must apply for a Release Facility Letter for the purpose of movement. However, some exemptions will be made, specifically for citizens residing in Labuan and returning to Sabah for work purposes.
