In a push to improve workplace safety, the Act will require employers to analyse risks in the workplace and appoint a health safety coordinator, if the company has five or more employees.
Malaysia's Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022 will come into effect on 1 June 2024. Announced by Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim, the amendment aims to increase the level of safety and health at workplaces nationwide.
As cited in Bernama, Minister Sim said he had signed the gazette to expedite the implementation and enforcement of the act, which was initially delayed for almost two years.
The Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022 was passed by Parliament on 16 March 2022.
According to Minister Sim, further cited in Bernama, following the enforcement of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (amendment) 2022, employers are required to analyse risks in the workplace and appoint a health safety coordinator, if the company has five or more employees.
