A level one alert is declared when daily maximum temperatures reach 35-37° Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
As of 4.30pm on 21 April 2024, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued Level one (Caution) heat warning for eight areas in Peninsula Malaysia. These areas include Pendang and Baling in Kedah, Hulu Perak in Perak, Kuala Krai, Gua Musang, Tanah Merah, and Pasir Mas in Kelantan, and Besut in Terengganu.
A level one alert is declared when daily maximum temperatures reach 35-37° Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
Similarly, two areas in Sabah and Sarawak have also been issue a Level one (Caution) warning — namely, Kinabatangan and Mukah, respectively.
The subsequent step, Level two (Heat Wave), is issued when the daily maximum temperature ranges from 37-40° Celsius for at least three consecutive days. In the most severe scenario, Level three (Extreme Heat Wave), the daily maximum temperature would have surpassed 40° Celsius for a minimum of three consecutive days.
MET Malaysia has said that it will provide further updates on the hot weather status.
