MOM appoints NTUC to run three migrant worker recreation centres in Western Singapore

Starting 1 August 2024, NTUC Club will manage Tuas South, Terusan, and Penjuru Recreation Centres (RCs) for three years.

Migrant workers in Western Singapore can look forward to more services and activities at three recreation centres (RCs) in the coming months. Starting 1 August 2024, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) via NTUC Club will manage Tuas South, Terusan, and Penjuru Recreation Centres for three years. This follows a Partnership Agreement signed between NTUC and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on 28 June 2024.

Michael Lim, Director of NTUC’s Migrant Workers Segment, spoke on the development: “Given NTUC’s deep understanding of migrant workers’ needs and operating of MWCRC (Migrant Workers' Centre Recreation Club) at Soon Lee, MOM is now entrusting NTUC with operating three additional MWRCs.

"We can leverage the strength of our NTUC network to further serve them at these MWRCs, be it to seek workplace assistance, take care of daily necessities or partake in social and recreational activities.”

NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong added: "We are taking a migrant worker-centric approach to serving them at these three recreation centres.

"We want to provide community spaces where they can relax, enjoy a variety of social and recreational services and get daily necessities at reasonable prices, after a hard day’s work.”

NTUC Club is looking to provide the following services at the RCs:

a) leisure and entertainment events.
b) training and skills upgrading through NTUC LearningHub.
c) Care4Migrant Workers Insurance via MWC Associate Membership.
d) welfare advocacy and support through MWC’s outreach and ambassador network.
e) information and engagement programmes by NGOs, corporate sponsors, and government agencies.

The Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) was founded by NTUC and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) in 2009 to support and advocate for migrant workers in Singapore.
