New partnerships with Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower to boost digital skills and create jobs

A partnership between the Ministry and the Digital and the National Nutrition Agency will see the provision of free nutritious meals as a way to create job opportunities.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Digital and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in efforts to strengthen the nation’s workforce. These efforts focus on two key areas, namely improving digital skills, and creating jobs through the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

On the first area, Yassierli, Minister of Manpower and Meutya Hafid Minister of Communication and Digital recently discussed ways to equip Indonesian workers with the digital skills needed in today’s job market. This includes training at Job Training Centers across the country in areas such as information technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital literacy.

The partnership will also align with the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) for the communication and digital sectors. Currently, 44 SKKNI cover fields such as AI, cloud computing, graphic design, and software development. This helps workers stay relevant as technology evolves.

Minister Yassierli stated: "With this collaboration, it is hoped that the Indonesian workforce will be more competitive and ready to face the challenges of the digital era in the global market."

The ministries also plan to jointly update employment regulations to support gig economy and freelancers as well as help entrepreneurs and MSMEs use digital technology through startup incubation programmes and human resource capacity building.

On the second area, Kemnaker is partnering with BGN to turn the MBG programme into a platform for job creation. This programme provides free nutritious meals as a way to create job opportunities. According to Minister Yassierli, the collaboration has two main goals: to create employment through MBG service units, and to provide skills training for those involved in the program.

The Ministry’s Job Training Center (BLK) will play a key role, offering hands-on training that covers everything from training to practice. The goal is to ensure participants are fully prepared to step into their roles within the MBG programme.

Minister Yassierli highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating: This is an extraordinary collaboration. In the near future, the Ministry of Manpower's BLK Kemnaker will be attended by the MBG programme service units.

"That is where the ecosystem will be realised starting from training, practice, until the participants are ready to dive directly into the MBG programme," he shared.
