Succeeding the incumbent CE of the MSAR, Sam will start his tenure on 20 December 2024.

The Chief Executive (CE) Election for the sixth-term Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) was completed on 13 October 2024 (Sunday). The only candidate, Sam Hou Fai (pictured above), has been formally announced as the CE-elect.

The election saw 398 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee present and cast their respective vote. Sam won with 394 votes, representing 98.99 percent of the total votes – more than half of the Chief Executive Election Committee votes as required by law.

Succeeding the incumbent CE of the MSAR Ho Iat Seng, Sam will start his tenure on 20 December 2024, which marks the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, for a five-year term upon the official appointment of the Central Government of China.

Speaking after the election, Sam highlighted that his commitment was to fulfil "faithfully his political platform and manifesto, with the primary goal of meeting the expectations of the people for a better life".

His principle would be to "fully, accurately, and steadfastly to implement the ‘One country, two systems’ principle, and safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests". His mission and vision would be "to accelerate appropriate economic diversification, and better integrate Macao into – and to serve – national development plans".

He also said he would "always carry in his heart gratitude and dedication, in order to live up to the expectations of the times and of the society, and would dedicate all the effort he could to this beloved city and its residents".

The CE of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee congratulated Sam on being elected as the sixth-term CE-elect of the MSAR, and said he has every confidence in working closely with him in the future "to achieve complementarity and mutual benefits for Hong Kong and Macao, giving full play to the cities' strengths to serve the country's needs".
