When completed, the RTS Link will connect Johor Bahru's Bukit Chagar to Singapore's Woodlands North, facilitating commute with a peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour, per direction.
Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim have commemorated the completion of the connecting span for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Project.
As highlighted in a media release by Singapore's Ministry of Transport, the completion of the connecting span in the RTS Link Project between Singapore and Malaysia marks a significant milestone, connecting the marine viaduct between Singapore and Malaysia. The 17.1m-long connecting span, located between Malaysia’s Pier 47 and Singapore’s Pier 48, was completed in end-December 2023.
PM Lee and PM Anwar graced the ceremony held on 11 January (Thursday) at the RTS Link Marine Viaduct site in the Straits of Johor. During the ceremony, both prime ministers signed commemorative plaques symbolising the shared commitment of both countries to deliver the cross-border rail project as a way to improve connectivity between the two countries. When completed, the RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North in Singapore, facilitating commute between Singapore and Johor Bahru with a peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour, per direction.
Co-located Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities will be situated at both the Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North stations to facilitate a seamless travelling experience. This way, commuters are only required to undergo immigration clearance at the point of departure, it was highlighted.
Passenger service is expected to commence by December 2026.
While at the commemoration, Singapore's Acting Minister for Transport, Chee Hong Tat, remarked: "As a third land connection, the RTS Link will make travel between our two countries more convenient, and benefit both Singaporeans and Malaysians."
