Singapore's Ministry of Health addresses concerns about delayed billing invoices by public healthcare institutions

The Ministry referenced instances where billing delays at the NCCS resulted in patients facing difficulty in making insurance claims.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore has addressed public concerns over significant delays in issuing billing invoices at public healthcare institutions. These delays, despite not being the patients' fault, have caused difficulties in making insurance claims due to missed insurers' deadlines.

In response to a written Parliamentary query on 7 January (Tuesday), the Ministry clarified that insurers generally do not reject claims if delays are beyond the patients' control. However, the Ministry acknowledged multiple cases at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) where billing delays have complicated insurance claims for patients.

To mitigate this, NCCS has issued letters to affected policyholders explaining the delays to their insurers. “More resources are being deployed to NCCS to clear the outstanding bills,” MOH stated. It also encouraged policyholders facing further claim submission challenges to seek additional support from NCCS.
