Since late 2023, Finland has accepted about 20 Vietnamese workers in fields like nursing, welding, and forestry.
Vietnam's Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung met with Finnish Ambassador Keijo Norvanto at the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs' headquarters on 23 May 2024.
At the meeting, both sides discussed promoting cooperation in vocational education and sending Vietnamese workers to Finland.
Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung commended Finland's dedication to enhancing vocational education cooperation between Vietnam and Finland. This effort was highlighted by the Vietnam-Finland Vocational Education Forum, organised by the Finnish Embassy in Vietnam to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung said: "The forum shared lessons and exchanged directions to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and Finland in improving the quality of vocational education; enhanced opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam’s vocational education institutions and Finnish training institutions."
He suggested the Ambassador continue to facilitate and promote vocational education cooperation between Vietnam and Finland.
Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung also noted significant potential for collaboration, particularly in labour, citing that since late 2023, Finland has accepted about 20 Vietnamese workers in fields like nursing, welding, and forestry.
Ambassador Keijo Norvanto, on the other hand, highlighted the broad relationship between the two countries, focusing on trade and sustainable development, but noted limited cooperation in labour and vocational education.
He recommended that MOLISA explore and sign a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance labour cooperation.
