Traffic advisory: Road closures near KLIA and Putrajaya on 15 & 17 April during Chinese President Xi’s visit to Malaysia

Travellers are strongly urged to plan ahead and schedule their trips to and from the airport outside the road closure hours to prevent any risk of missing flights or facing significant delays.

Heading to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this week? Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and schedule their trips to and from the airport as road closures will commence near KLIA and Putrajaya, Malaysia, on 15 and 17 April 2025 (Tuesday and Thursday) for the official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

As shared in a Facebook post by Malaysia Airports, full road closures will be implemented on the following dates and times:

  • 15 April 2025 (Tuesday) approximately between 6:00pm-7:00pm
  • 17 April 2025 (Thursday) approximately between 8:50am-9:50am

Affected routes are as follows:

  1. Lebuh KLIA
  2. Lebuhraya ELITE
  3. Lingkaran Putrajaya
  4. Lebuh Putrajaya-Dengkil
  5. Persiaran Selatan
  6. Lebuh Gemilang
  7. Jalan P5

Malaysia Airports also shared some recommended transportation options that travellers can consider when commuting to and from the airport:

  • KLIA Express train from KL Sentral to/from KLIA Terminals 1 and 2.
  • KLIA Transit train from KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya, or Salak Tinggi to/from KLIA Terminals 1 and 2.

However, if driving is unavoidable, travellers can consider this alternative route instead:

From ELITE Highway (E6) > Exit at Serenia Toll > Kota Warisan > Bulatan Masjid > Jalan KLIA 1 > Charterfield round-a-bout, KLIA Terminal 1 Departures/Arrivals/Parking.

In addition, as there will be limited access to Terminal 2 Departures/Arrivals/parking due to the road closure, it is recommended that travellers take the KLIA Express/Transit train directly to the terminal. If arriving at Terminal 2, travellers may take the KLIA Transit train to Terminal 1 for alternative travel arrangements.

Malaysia Airports has also encouraged travellers to plain their journey to and from the airport outside the road closure times, if possible, to avoid delays.
