Winning Secrets: How SoftwareOne Philippines manages organisational change with a people-centric culture

"We look for leaders to lead by example – being visibly supportive and involved in the process, acting as a champion for change, and celebrating the milestones, large and small, to maintain momentum and foster strong morale", Paul Peter S. Garcia, Country General Manager, shares.

At SoftwareOne Philippines, creating an effective people strategy is driven by the desire to keep employees happy. As the team ensures its workforce remains motivated, it enjoys better business outcomes and a thriving, work environment in return.

With its people-centric culture, the team won the silver award for 'Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion' at the HR Excellence Awards 2024, Philippines — led by Paul Peter S. Garcia, Country General Manager of SoftwareOne Philippines (pictured above) who also won gold for 'Most People-Focused CEO'.

In this interview, Paul shares how SoftwareOne Philippines looks for leaders to lead by example as the team manages organisational change.

Q What was the motivation that sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?

Our People. Creating an effective people strategy is driven by the desire to keep employees happy, attract top talent, boost performance, foster innovation, and build a positive culture. These elements ensure a motivated workforce, leading to better business outcomes and a thriving, inclusive work environment.

Happy and motivated employees are more likely to provide better customer service, leading to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Q Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?

Organisational change, with the evolution of processes and teams, is inherent in any global and growing enterprise. Managing organisational change in a people-centric culture like SoftwareOne’s, revolves around a robust communications strategy — encompassing 1:1 sessions, group discussions, and feedback mechanisms – establishing channels for employees to share their views and for leaders to provide assurance that any challenges will be addressed properly.

We look for leaders to lead by example – being visibly supportive and involved in the process, acting as a champion for change, and celebrating the milestones, large and small, to maintain momentum and foster strong morale.

Q Beyond the recognition, what impact do you hope your feature in the HR Excellence Awards would have on the HR community and manpower landscape?

I hope to inspire the HR community to work toward adopting people strategies that recognise the importance of employee engagement, talent development, and inclusive culture.

Together, we can drive positive changes by encouraging prioritisation of employee wellbeing which in turn can have a positive effect on business performance.

Providing a workplace that shows it values engagement, talent development, wellbeing and a culture where everyone can be themselves fosters a more motivated, productive, and satisfied workforce that ultimately contributes to overall business performance and a healthier work environment.

Q Could you share some advice you would give to others aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

Be authentic. Stay true to your values and beliefs. Communicate openly and honestly, even when it’s difficult. Embrace your unique qualities and don’t try to be someone you’re not. Listen actively and show genuine interest in others. Consistency in actions and words builds trust. Always remember that authenticity fosters deeper connections and a more fulfilling life.

Q Let's talk inspiration! Who has been a driving force behind your success?

The people of SoftwareOne. I believe in one simple philosophy – take good care of your people and your people will take care of you and the business.
