Additionally, the group plans to increase the number of employees by up to 4,000 by the end of this year.
The Cathay Group has announced its 2024 Annual Results. To reward employees for a second consecutive year of solid financial performance, the company is providing employees with more than 10 weeks of eligible pay in total as a bonus.
Cathay Group Chair Patrick Healy said the Group reported an attributable profit of HK$9.9bn in 2024. He attributed the financial success to the effort and dedication of the global teams.
Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said: “Recognising our people for work well done has always been an important part of our culture at Cathay, and we are pleased to provide them with a total of more than 10 weeks of eligible pay in the form of discretionary bonus and profit-share scheme.”
Lam highlighted the Group's focus on rebuilding connectivity at the Hong Kong international aviation hub to meet the ongoing robust travel demand in 2024. The efforts have culminated in the company reaching 100% of its pre-pandemic flights from January 2025. During 2024, Cathay Pacific and HK Express together launched passenger services to 15 destinations. Cargo performance has also been strong, partly due to the additional belly space provided by the increased passenger flights.
To support its rebuild, the Group has set a new record by recruiting and training around 7,000 new employees in 2024, bringing the overall headcount to more than 30,000 people currently.
Looking ahead to 2025, Lam revealed plans to continue expanding the global team by further increasing the number of employees by up to 4,000 to a total of around 34,000 people by the end of this year to support business growth.
“To our people at Cathay, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for their passion and dedication every step of the way,” said Lam. “The future is exciting and I look forward to embarking on this journey with all our people around the world.”
