Deadline for deployment of Bangladeshi plantation workers to Malaysia extended to 31 March 2025

Workers involved have been instructed to finalise all procedures, including obtaining visas by 15 February 2025.

In a recent notification dated 28 January 2025, Gazi Md Shahed Anowar, Deputy Secretary of the Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry in Bangladesh, announced that the deadline for sending selected workers to Malaysia’s plantation sector has been extended to until 31 March 2025.

As reported by BSS News, these workers have been instructed to finalise all procedures, including obtaining visas by 15 February 2025.

The government has capped the maximum migration cost for each worker at Tk78,740, BSS News further reported. Workers are advised to make payments only to approved recruiting agents to avoid potential fraud.

This extension aims to facilitate a smoother migration process, ensuring that all selected workers have ample time to complete the necessary formalities before embarking on their employment journey in Malaysia’s plantation sector.
