Heavy rain warnings in place in Singapore from 10 Jan (Fri) and 13 Jan 2025 (Mon)

A monsoon surge is forecast to bring rainy and windy weather - here are some flood safety tips to keep yourself and others safe.

Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) has released a 'Heavy Rain Warning' advisory, stating that a monsoon surge is forecast to bring rainy and windy weather to Singapore between 10 January (Friday) and 13 January 2025 (Monday).

During this time, periods of moderate to heavy thundery showers, with cool and windy conditions can be expected.

The daily minimum temperatures may dip to around 22°C in some places.

This follows an earlier update, which said the last few days of the first fortnight in January would see a strengthening of high-pressure systems over the northern Asian continent, bringing a surge of strong north-easterly winds, also known as a monsoon surge, over the South China Sea, implying wetter conditions over Singapore and the surrounding region.

As such, intense downpours may overwhelm Singapore's canals and drains temporarily, leading to flash floods.

Owing to the wet weather forecast, national water agency PUB has released a set of flood safety tips for residents to aware of.

🌊 Adjust your travel plans if needed.
🌊 Check your destination for flood risk and plan your route accordingly.
🌊 For pedestrians: Use a stick or umbrella to check for open drains and firmness of the ground in front of you.
🌊 Don't drive or walk through water above kerb or ankle height.
🌊 For motorists: If the flooded area is absolutely unavoidable and assessed to be passable, drive slowly and steadily. Avoid braking to keep your engine speed higher and constant. Stay close to the middle lane as water tends to accumulate on the side lanes. Go through floodwater one vehicle at a time.
