Johor declares Saturday and Sunday as new weekend days starting 1 Jan 2025

Currently and up till 31 December 2024, Johor's weekend rest days are Friday and Saturday, as decreed in 2014..

Starting 1 January 2025, weekend days off in Johor, Malaysia, will be changed to Saturday and Sunday

This announcement was made by Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail, following the approval of King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and taking into consideration the views of the Johor Islamic Religious Council (JAINJ).

Tunku Ismail stated in a Facebook post: "I have decreed for the Johor Chief Minister YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Johor Mufti to discuss and study every angle and aspect regarding this matter.

"I hope that the private sector, the government, and related parties allow sufficient time and space for Muslim workers to perform Friday prayers accordingly."

Johor's weekend rest days were decreed as Friday and Saturday in 2014. According to a MalayMail report, the change effective 1 January 2025 comes following "growing feedback from various sectors including education, industry, and banking," with the aim to align with the federal governments weekend schedule.
