Malaysia to open two VEP RFID installation facilities in Johor to assist Singapore drivers from 22 September

The additional facilities will assist Singaporean vehicle owners in installing the VEP RFID tag.

Malaysia's Ministry of Transport, through the Department of Road Transport (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan, or JPJ), announced on 19 September that effective Sunday (22 September 2024), two additional facility locations will be introduced in Johor Bahru, in an effort to improve the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) RFID tag registration process.

The additional facilities will assist Singaporean vehicle owners in installing the VEP RFID tag, in lieu of the upcoming enforcement of the Foreign Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) at the Malaysia-Singapore land border starting 1 October 2024.

Here are the locations of the two additional facilities in Johor Bahru, and how many vehicle drivers each can assist in a day:

Currently, the VEP RFID tag installation location is only at the VEP Collection Center (VCC), Danga Bay, Johor Bahru, with a capacity of 300 vehicles per day only.

According to the media statement from JPJ, the additional facilities will further increase the amount of tag installations to 1,500 vehicles in totality per day.  This effort is to facilitate the installation of VEP RFID tags on Singapore vehicles, provided their owners have regostered for the VEP online.

JPJ has stressed for all foreign motor vehicle owners to immediately register, install, and activate their tags if they have not done so already, to avoid any difficulties when entering and exiting Malaysia from 1 October 2024.
