The strategy's seven key low-carbon thrusts will play a role in stimulating socio-economic growth in green industries; as well as creating new jobs and skill development in green industries, Minister Zafrul said.
Malaysia's Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has reaffirmed its readiness to support the country's implementation of the Green Investment Strategy to attract green investments and catalyse sustainable socio-economic development.
In a statement, the ministry said it will be the main ministry involved in the implementation, which will be led by YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.
MITI, as the Secretariat, will focus on attracting green investments to help realise the net zero carbon emission target as early as 2050, as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). The strategy is based on seven key low-carbon thrusts under the NETR and NIMP 2030 plans:
- Energy efficiency,
- Renewable energy,
- Hydrogen bioenergy,
- Green mobility (Land, marine, aviation),
- Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), and
- Circular economy.
Commenting on this, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, said: "The implementation of the Green Investment Strategy will see a more effective, orderly, and systematic implementation of the energy transition and green investment for Malaysia. Among the main targets is to attract almost eight times the total investment to Malaysia to achieve the objectives of NIMP 2030 and NETR; ensuring investments in the seven key low-carbon thrusts; leverage foreign direct investment in the green technology sector and improve the green investment ecosystem."
All of these, he added, are seen to be able to stimulate socio-economic growth in green industries; as well as creating new jobs and skill development in green industries.
"This will enhance Malaysia's image and attractiveness as a preferred green investment destination and hub as well as position Malaysia as a regional leader in the green technology sector," he noted.
