SAP Labs Singapore to invest in hiring and developing 200 AI engineers

Slated to take place over the next two years, the focus will be on nurturing early-career talents from local universities and IHLs.

SAP Labs Singapore has announced its intention to invest in hiring and development of approximately 200 AI engineers with the aim to become a centre of excellence for the company globally. As such, the SAP AI Hub will also house skilled development teams that will play a role in building AI embedded AI solutions for customers globally.

The expansion was announced at SAP d-com Singapore, the organisation's first-ever developer community conference in Singapore, with Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity Josephine Teo in attendance as the guest-of-honour. In a keynote address, Minister Teo shared her insights on the importance of building next-generation digital talents to future-proof Singapore’s growth.

The expansion marks a milestone in SAP Labs Singapore's journey, a digital innovation hub launched in March 2022 in partnership with the Economic Development Board (EDB).

Over the next two years, SAP Labs Singapore plans to hire approximately 200 engineers to fill newly created AI roles, with a focus on nurturing early-career talents from Singapore’s local universities and institutions of higher learning. At the moment, close to 50 of these roles have already been filled over the past three months.

Manik Saha, Managing Director for SAP Labs Singapore, commented: “When we launched SAP Labs Singapore last year, we aimed to employ more than 400 highly skilled digital professionals here by 2025. The expansion of AI capabilities is a major step towards that goal and furthers our mission to develop high-quality Singapore-based engineers with future-proof skills to build software and solutions for the world. We look forward to forging deeper partnerships with both the public and private sector to sharpen Singapore’s AI ambition and capabilities.”

Eileen Chua, Managing Director of SAP Singapore, added: “Singapore has a strong National AI Strategy to drive innovation and adoption across our digital economy. With generative AI revolutionising many of our industries, changing how we work and how our customers are interacting with our software, Singapore organisations are looking to an experienced partner like SAP to help innovate and expand at scale with intelligence embedded responsibly into our business applications and processes.”
