The launch of the centre, located in the Thai northeastern province of Khon Kaen, is said to reflect a growing interest in the Vietnamese language in Thailand.
A second Vietnamese studies centre was launched in the Thai northeastern province of Khon Kaen on 8 June 2024, under the College of Asian Scholars (CAS).
According to a report by Vietnam News, the second centre of its kind in Thailand follows the first at Udon Thani Rajabhat University, and highlights growing interest in Vietnam and its language among Thai citizens and the ongoing efforts of Vietnamese agencies in Thailand to promote Vietnamese language learning in Thai schools.
As quoted in the report, Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen, Chu Đức Dũng, believes the new centre will meet the demand for Vietnamese language skills in various sectors like government, teaching, business, interpretation, and tourism in both Vietnam and Thailand.
The centre is expected to see cooperation agreements signed with Vietnamese universities for student exchanges and temporary work opportunities.
Looking ahead, the report cited, he hopes the new centre will maintain regular exchanges with the existing centre at Udon Thani Rajabhat University to align their goals and eventually award degrees in Vietnamese language to Khon Kaen University graduates.
