Singapore Presidential Election 2023: Ng Kok Song, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Tan Kin Lian qualify as candidates

With more than one qualifying candidate, and if any stands nominated on Nomination Day (22 August 2023), 1 September 2023 will be declared as Polling Day.

The Presidential Elections Committee of Singapore has issued three Certificates of Eligibility to the successful candidates of the 2023 Presidential Elections. With this, the following three qualifying contenders for the upcoming presidential elections are as follows:

  1. Former Chief Investment Officer of GIC, Ng Kok Song;
  2. Former Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam; and
  3. Tan Kin Lian.

There were a total of six applications for the certificate received, with three rejected.

With more than one qualifying candidate, and if any stands nominated on Nomination Day (22 August 2023), 1 September 2023 will be declared as Polling Day. Under the law, Polling Day at any presidential election shall be a public holiday.
