This comes as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued the Writ of Election. As a result, Nomination Day will be on 22 August 2023 (Tuesday). This day is set aside for prospective Presidential candidates to deliver the Nomination Paper and several required documents in duplicate, accompanied by their proposer, seconder and at least four assentors, to the Returning Officer at the Nomination Place between 11 am and 12 noon.

As such, the Elections Department has confirmed that if more than one candidate stands nominated on Nomination Day, the Returning Officer will declare 1 September 2023 (Friday) to be Polling Day.

For employers to note, the statement adds: "Under the law, Polling Day at any presidential election shall be a public holiday. For those working on Polling Day, the employer shall allow every elector in his employ a reasonable period of time for voting."

If, on the other hand, come Nomination Day, and there is only one eligible candidate, then that candidate will be declared Singapore's new President.
