Up the ranks: Mazhatulshima Mohd Zahid is now Maybank's Group Chief Human Capital Officer

She succeeds Datuk (Dr) Nora Abd Manaf, and is now responsible for driving the Group’s people strategy to enable the continued development of Maybankers across all levels, sectors, and countries.

Effective 3 October 2024 (Thursday), Mazhatulshima Mohd Zahid (pictured above) has taken on the role of Group Chief Human Capital Officer (GCHCO) at Maybank, succeeding Datuk (Dr) Nora Abd Manaf who retires after a career of 16 years with Maybank.

In her new role, Mazhatulshima is responsible for driving the Group’s people strategy, based on a progressive and comprehensive enterprise-wide people management framework and initiatives, to enable the continued development of Maybankers across all levels, sectors, and countries. She will report to President & Group Chief Executive Officer (PGCEO) of Maybank, Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli, and be a member of the Group Executive Committee.

Mazhatulshima was most recently Chief Risk Officer of Maybank Investment Banking Group, a role she took on in July 2018. She brings with her more than 29 years of experience, particularly in the areas of treasury, risk management and internal audit, Mazhatulshima started her career in treasury dealing and then transitioned to market risk management, serving leading financial institutions in Malaysia prior to her tenure at Maybank.

In April 2023, Mazhatulshima was appointed as the Chief Audit Executive at Maybank Singapore. In this role, she successfully led a team of audit practitioners in delivering high-quality audit work with a risk-based approach and significantly enhanced audit practices through increased use of data analytics, digital tools, and implementation of continuous auditing.

Commenting on the appointment, PGCEO Dato’ Khairussaleh said it continues to "demonstrate the effectiveness of Maybank’s internal succession planning and talent management policy, aligned to strengthen and intensify its internal capacity building."

"Mazhatulshima’s diverse experience will be vital in ensuring that our workforce is future ready and tooled with adequate solutions, addressing the design of our organisation to support business needs in a customer-centric environment, leading our talent identification development and management as well as institutionalising the Agile ways of working as our culture and DNA, in line with our M25+ strategy," he added.

The PGCEO also thanked Datuk Nora for her "unwavering commitment and immense contributions over the years in strengthening Maybank’s position as a leading organisation in this region."

He said: "“Through her impactful leadership, Datuk Nora has been instrumental in shaping Maybank’s people strategy and driving key initiatives related to talent management, leadership development, organisational development and culture.

"She has been a role model in aligning HR strategies with the broader business goals of the organisation, fostering growth and driving transformation as well as elevating Maybank’s position as the top-ranked employer of choice across key graduate employment ranking tables."
