Fewer documents required for Professional Visit Pass applications in Malaysia from 16 August

Documents that will no longer be needed include a bank guarantee, offer letter, and more.

The Expatriate Services Division of Malaysia has simplified the document requirements for Professional Visit Pass (PVP) applications. As such, the general documents required for each application will be reduced from 13 items to six, effective 16 August 2024 (Friday)

The changes are as follows.

Before simplification 

  • Copy of passport: All pages (with six empty pages)
  • Application letter from sponsor
  • Personal bond (All nationalities except Chinese and Bangladeshi)
  • Security bond & bank guarantee (Chinese and Bangladeshi nationalities only)
  • Offer letter from sponsor company in Malaysia
  • Acceptance letter by foreign company
  • Job description
  • Working schedule
  • Academic certificate
  • Updated resume
  • Letter of Award (LOA) / Contract [if applicable]
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) [if applicable]
  • Supporting documents, if applicable:
    • For the purpose of installation, maintenance and repair of machinery or installation of new product.
    • For external experts in mining activities.
    • For aeroplane simulation testers.
    • For hotels receiving applications for the 'Student Under Practical Training' programme.

After simplification, effective 16 August 2024

  • Copy of passport: All pages (with six empty pages)
  • Application letter from sponsor
  • Bonds:
    • Personal bond (All nationalities except Chinese and Bangladeshi)
    • Security bond (Chinese and Bangladeshi nationalities only)
  • LOA / Contract [if applicable]
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) [if applicable]
  • Supporting documents, if applicable:
    • For the purpose of installation, maintenance and repair of machinery or installation of new product.
    • For external expert in mining activities.
    • For aeroplane simulation testers.
    • For hotels receiving applications for the 'Student Under Practical Training' programme.

Documents that are obsolete following the simplification:

  • Bank guarantee
  • Offer letter
  • Acceptance letter
  • Job description
  • Working schedule
  • Academic certificate
  • Updated resume

ESD said the reduction in documentation needed comes in hopes to enhance its customer experience without compromising on national security, in line with ongoing efforts to continuously improve its services and streamline expatriate application processes.

Once deployed, updated sample documents and the ESD Online Guidebook will be available via ESD Online for reference.
