Policies are in place to ensure continuous sustainable development and upskilling of the workforce so that workers are equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to thrive in the digital economy.
The Indonesian government, represented by Secretary General of the Ministry of Labour, Anwar Sanusi, attended a summit in Geneva, Switzerland, on 11 March 2024 (Monday).
The discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities of digitalisation — including artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithm management for the world of work. Against this backdrop, Secretary General Anwar emphasised the importance of adaptive policies in the era of digitalisation.
"Indonesia is committed to adaptive employment policies and understands the importance of adopting technological advances while protecting the rights and welfare of the workforce", he shared.
The leader also acknowledged that digitalisation has revolutionised the labour market, changing the organisation, structure, and the very nature of work itself. Digitalisation, he continued, provides opportunities for efficiency and increased productivity.
In response to such digitalisation challenges, Indonesia has proactively implemented adaptive employment policies. This is done to ensure continuous sustainable development and upskilling of the workforce so that workers are equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to thrive in the digital economy.
"It is important to create inclusive policies that promote talent management and provide equal opportunities for all individuals to contribute to the workforce."
At the forum, Indonesia further advocated for a regulatory framework that protects the career rights of individual workers, ensuring their dignity, self-fulfillment and fair treatment in the digital era.
