Malaysia and Japan reaffirm commitment to strengthening trade and investment cooperation

As of 2023, a total of 2,810 projects by Japanese companies have been implemented in Malaysia, amounting to total investments worth RM102.11bn and creating 344,120 job opportunities.

On his first visit since his appointment, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Masahiro Komura was hosted to a working luncheon by Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia Datuk Mohamad Alamin.

During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing the mutually beneficial Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Malaysia and Japan.

They also discussed strengthening trade and investment cooperation, as well as the existing partnerships in the areas of defence, tourism, higher education, and green energy.

Japan has been Malaysia’s fourth largest trading partner for nine consecutive years. In 2023, total trade between Malaysia and Japan reached RM156.64bn (USD34.39bn).

Additionally, as of 2023, a total of 2,810 projects by Japanese companies have been implemented in Malaysia, amounting to total investments worth RM102.11bn (USD29.67bn), creating 344,120 job opportunities.
