Malaysia delays QR code immigration clearance system trial at Johor–Singapore Causeway bus lane

Meanwhile, the testing process for bus and motorcycle services at ClQ Kompleks Suitan Abu Bakar (KSAB) has "gone smoothly", JIM said.

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, or JIM) has announced that it will be delaying the trial of the QR code immigration clearance system for its Malaysians travelling to Singapore by bus via the CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI, also referred to as Johor-Singapore Causeway).

Director-General of Immigration Dato' Ruslin Jusoh said in a statement on 4 June (Tuesday) that JIM is in the final stages of streamlining the requirements of the QR Code application, to ensure a smooth implementation.

According to The Star, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, Johor's State Works, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communication Committee Chairman, said it is expected to start in two weeks' time.

This follows the previously announced trial run for a QR code Immigration clearance for Malaysians traveling to Singapore from starting 1 June 2024. Since then, the testing process for bus and motorcycle services at ClQ Kompleks Suitan Abu Bakar (KSAB), Gelang Patah has "gone smoothly", DG Ruslin said.

According to the DG, the trial at KSAB has received positive feedback from users, where a total of 117,000 users have downloaded this application, with a total of 13,846 users having used the application.

Meanwhile, the same testing process is still underway for the bus passenger route at CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI), where JIM is in the final stages of streamlining the requirements of the QR Code application to ensure a smooth implementation.

To note, the implementation of Immigration checks using QR Codes is in the trial process as a POC for a period of three months. During this period, the use of the QR Code only applies to Malaysian citizens who travel via bus and motorcycle the at CIQ KSAB and bus services at CIQ BSI.
