This includes expanding expertise in disability management and updating the Occupational Safety and Health Bachelor's degree syllabus to equip graduates with relevant skills.

The National University of Malaysia (UKM) and Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on building more inclusive initiatives for workers in the country.

Signed on 3 September 2024 (Tuesday), the MoU, as shared by PERKESO, saw the launch of the Industrial Rehabilitation Professional Certification, an initiative designed to produce more experts in disability management, with the goal of fostering a more inclusive and accessible workplace for all.

An update by UKM added that the certification training will commence in October, this year and will be open to all individuals operating rehabilitation services in both the public and private sectors.

The collaboration also seeks to integrate 'Return to Work' into the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Bachelor's degree curriculum at UKM next year. This key initiative ensures graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills in the field.

Present at the ceremony were:

  • John Riba Marin, Deputy Chief Executive (Operations), PERKESO, representing Bahagia Dato' Sri Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, PERKESO Group Chief Executive Officer;
  • Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Gafor, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs, UKM;
