The travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan will be shortened from two hours to approximately 30 minutes.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a cross-sea passage linking the cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan in southern China's Guangdong Province, officially opened on 30 June 2024.

Spanning 24km, the new road link marks the world's first cross-sea cluster of infrastructure, including a bridge, a subsea tunnel, two artificial islands, and an underground interchange. Upon the opening of the link, the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan will be shortened from two hours to approximately 30 minutes.

In a congratulatory letter on the opening of the passage, Chinese President Xi Jinping said the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is another large-scale transportation project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area following the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. He underscored efforts to manage and make good use of the passage, and promote infrastructure connectivity and alignment of rules and mechanisms to facilitate the building of an integrated market in the Greater Bay Area.

Eric Chan, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR, said in a Facebook post that the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has laid a more solid foundation for the “one-hour living circle” in the Greater Bay Area. The transportation and connection between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Zhongshan will become more convenient, further facilitating Hong Kong citizens for employment, business, and investments in Zhongshan.
