Financial information services provider Fitch Group has appointed Dr Maria Angelica Perez (pictured above) as its first Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

The overarching goal for Dr Perez, who is based in London, will be strengthening the working environment to actively embrace different perspectives, cultures, and diversity of thought. She will be front and center in implementing Fitch Group’s 'Focus on Our People' strategic objective to reinforce one of Fitch’s three core values: to foster a strong and inclusive culture.

Fitch Group has operations in more than 30 countries, and over 450 employees in the Asia-Pacific region with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, and Beijing.

The DEI leader joins Fitch Group from Standard Chartered, where she was the Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), overseeing D&I across 60 markets and 86,000 colleagues and credited with achieving numerous accolades for the firm. Dr. Perez has also held various DEI and organisational development roles at UBS, HSBC, and Ericsson.

“The power of Fitch has always been in our culture. As a knowledge business, our people are our greatest asset,” said Fitch Group’s Chief Human Resources Officer Andy Jackson, who Dr. Perez will report to.

“With an established, international reputation as a respected thought leader and vocal advocate for how diversity drives business success, Dr Perez will be integral in differentiating Fitch as an employer of choice.”

Over the coming year, Dr Perez’s primary mandate will be shaping Fitch Group’s DEI strategy, working in conjunction with the Fitch leadership team, as well as coordinating and collaborating across stakeholder groups, including HR.
