Winning Secrets: 3 factors driving a successful people strategy at Frasers Property (Thailand)

A chat with Vachira Chatbhuti, EVP - People and Culture, Frasers Property (Thailand) on what a 'One Frasers One Platform One Culture' approach means to the team.

Behind every successful organisation is a people strategy that aligns with business objectives, fosters growth, and builds future leaders. This strategy also ensures that the overall goals are met through an all-hands-on-deck approach — i.e., all stakeholders have a part to play.

In this interview, HRO speaks to Vachira Chatbhuti (pictured above), Executive Vice President - People and Culture, Frasers Property (Thailand), to learn how this approach plays out in his organisation, and his advice for other HR teams looking to embark on a similar journey.

Vachira and team won a silver award at the 'Excellence in Employee Volunteerism' at the third edition of HRO's HR Excellence Awards in Thailand, held on 23 August 2024.

Q What was the motivation that sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?

There are three things here:

  1. Understanding and alignment people strategy with business,
  2. A strong belief in people and capabilities, and
  3. Building future leader is a key to sustain business.

Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?

In one situation, I was part of an HR team during a merger, where we needed to build the corporate culture and way of work between two companies with different cultures and styles.

The challenge was to integrate these cultures while maintaining employee morale and productivity. The initial phase was met with resistance and uncertainty, as employees feared job losses and changes in company values.

To triumph over this challenge, we took a proactive 'One Frasers One Platform One Culture' themed approach:

  1. Leadership alignment
  2. Strengthen corporate culture
  3. Standardise HR processes and systems
  4. Ensure clear communication

Q Beyond the recognition, what impact do you hope your feature in the HR Excellence Awards would have on the HR community and manpower landscape?

Beyond the recognition, I hope that being featured in the HR Excellence Awards would inspire and empower other HR professionals to push boundaries and innovate in their practices. I aim to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, where HR is seen not just as a support function but as a strategic partner driving organisational success.

Q
Could you share some advice you would give to others aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

Build trust from the top executives, and be sure to build strong relationships with all your stakeholders as well.

At the same time, ensure you find a balance between the business and your employees, and, importantly, communicate effectively.

Q Let's talk inspiration! Who has been a driving force behind your success?

It’s true that HR involves a variety of the people in an organisation — from top executives to all employees, which will lead to success in human resources management.

An important person who is a role model and drives me to success today is my boss, who always give me ideas, advice, and opportunities to work with new and challenging assignments. I also cannot forget my People and Culture team who have made me successful and always support my HR journey, with their knowledge and experiences that make my role complete.
