She is responsible for the HR function across the HKEX Group in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and internationally, supporting the long-term development of the organisation.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has announced the appointment of Sharon Cheng as Group Chief People Officer, effective 3 October 2023. She succeeds Kerry Rooks, who will be leaving HKEX in January 2024 to explore opportunities outside the Group.

Cheng will report to HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer, Bonnie Y Chan, and become a member of the HKEX Management Committee. She is responsible for the human resources function across the HKEX Group in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and internationally, supporting the long-term development of the organisation.

“I am delighted to welcome Sharon to HKEX. She brings with her over 30 years of experience in human resources, culture, change management, and people development at leading organisations, with operations around the world. I know that Sharon’s wealth of knowledge and experience will be invaluable to us as we continue to attract the best local and international talent to HKEX, working together to shape the future of our markets and our business,” said Nicolas Aguzin, Chief Executive Officer at HKEX.

Prior to HKEX, Cheng was most recently at Tricor as Group Chief People Officer, where she oversaw a regional workforce of 3,000 across 49 cities. She previously spent nearly 27 years at Langham Hospitality Group, where for more than a decade she was part of the executive committee that saw the Group transform into a luxury hotel management business with international operations.

Aguzin added: “I would like to thank Kerry for her hard work and passion since she joined the business in January 2022, in particular for her contribution to modernising our HR processes and developing our talent at HKEX. Kerry will stay on until January to ensure a smooth handover. We wish her the very best in her future endeavours."
