Noppong Pongpanichnukul, Head of People, shares the key to building loyalty and increasing engagement levels at Jetts 24-Hour Fitness.
As one of the first business groups to cease operations during the pandemic, Jetts 24-Hour Fitness was significantly impacted by the crisis. However, the team worked hard to take care of its employees' wellbeing — from providing staff with access to vaccines, to managing compensation when the company was unable to operate.
This diligence has earned the organisation its bronze award for 'Excellence in Recovery & Rebound Strategy' at the HR Excellence Awards 2024 in Thailand.
Noppong Pongpanichnukul, Head of People, shares the key to building loyalty and increasing engagement levels at Jetts 24-Hour Fitness.
Q What sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?
With the aim of becoming 'The most loved gym', we believe that loving our people is the first step. When our team members feel valued and happy, they can then share that positivity through exceptional service to our clients. This core mission deeply resonates with me and highlights the essential role of HR in supporting every employee’s wellbeing and happiness throughout their time with us.
Our responsibilities begin with recruiting talented individuals who align with our vision. We also want to invest in our team’s growth by helping everyone develop their skills in different areas. This way, we can keep up with the fast-paced changes around us. We also ensure our compensation is fair, and that rewards and recognition are the key to building loyalty and increase the engagement level.
Q Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we were one of the businesses that were majorly impacted because the staff was required to be in direct contact with customers all the time. So, our company was the first group to cease operations during the pandemic and was the last group to be allowed to reopen. Human resources management in a highly impacted business, with locations across the country, posed significant challenges for our HR department.
We worked diligently to provide our employees with access to vaccines, managed compensation during the period when the company was unable to operate, and ensured effective, timely communication with all team members.
Q Beyond the recognition, what impact do you hope your feature in the HR Excellence Awards would have on the HR community and manpower landscape
Undoubtedly, this award brings both direct and indirect benefits to the organisation and all employees. The direct benefits include employees feeling proud to be part of a standards-driven organisation recognised by leading entities. We can also see a measurable decrease in turnover, along with an increase in employee referrals of friends to join our team.
Additionally, the indirect benefits of this award include recognition from colleagues, partners, and our clients, as well as elevating our HR management standards to align with top companies in the country.
Q Could you share some advice you would give to others aspiring to follow in your footsteps?
I have faith in the human resources role. Each year, I set goals for my work and strive to try my best while developing myself. I always seek knowledge whenever I have the opportunity and welcome new projects, as these experiences reflect my abilities and achievements.
Additionally, I will very happy and proud whenever I have the chance to share my knowledge and best practices in human resources with others, whether they are colleagues, supervisors, students, or anyone interested. The insights gained in HR can be effectively applied to everyday life.
Q Let's talk inspiration! Who has been a driving force behind your success?
The first and foremost to contribute to my success are my parents. After that, the management at Jetts 24-Hour Fitness. They’ve provided me a chance to prove myself and showcase my work over the nearly four years I’ve been here. Lastly, I can’t forget the amazing team members in my department and across the company who make the work of the HR department, and my own contributions, truly valuable.
I believe that every organisation faces people-related challenges, but it’s how we tackle these issues that really shows the strength of HR professionals.
