HRO talks to Andrew Chang, Head of Talent Acquisition at HKEX to know more about the firm's recruitment plan and visions.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has started recruiting for its '2023 HKEX Graduate Programme' to attract graduates to develop a career in global stock markets.

Formerly known as the 'Management Trainee Programme', which had been running for over a decade, the programme has now been rebranded as 'Graduate Programme', which will provide greater exposure for participating graduates whom it calls 'associates' to develop all-rounded capabilities and agility to work across the firm.

Throughout the 24-month programme, the associates will go through intensive training to nurture their technical skills, leadership skills, teamwork abilities, and professional knowledge. They will also have the opportunity to work with industry leaders from both inside and outside the business, and gain firm-wide on-the-job experience with additional rotational opportunities across all HKEX’s business functions.

Sharing with HROAndrew Chang, Head of Talent Acquisition at HKEX said its graduate and intern programmes have received positive feedback from university students and graduates, internal business leadership and the wider community in general, and helped the firm to grow its talents. "Many of which are now in managerial or specialist careers with HKEX," said Chang. "We have also benefitted from this talent pool which has contributed to the growth and continued success of our company and our markets."

The programme is now open for application until mid-Oct 2022.

Recruiting in a market with high talent mobility, like Hong Kong, Chang believes the key lies in helping people develop a rewarding and promising career. "We want to make sure that we are offering our employees a career, not only a job," stressed Chang. “We always recruit candidates from diverse backgrounds. In addition, being focused on enhancing the employee value proposition including employee experience, learning, career opportunities, and mobility has proven to be successful for us."

Looking ahead, as HKEX continues to expand its business into new areas such as digital assets and carbon trading, Chang said the group will be constantly looking for talents with relevant skills aligned to its future development, while welcoming candidates who are willing to take on new challenges.

"To support our vision to build the marketplace of the future, we are looking for talent who possess strong communication and collaboration skills, high sense of client centricity, risk awareness, innovation as well as adaptability and flexibility to embrace change in an ever-changing competitive environment," added Chang.
